Job Overview:
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Materials & Processes Engineer to join our dynamic and international team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing engineering consultancy, ensuring technical risk mitigation, and ensuring the suitability of materials and processes for next-generation optical instruments and space systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Engineering Consultancy & Risk Mitigation: Provide expert guidance on materials and processes used in the development of optical instruments for space applications. Mitigate technical risks related to materials and processes.
* Materials & Process Assessment: Assess the suitability of materials and processes for their use in space environments, ensuring compliance with space industry standards.
* Manufacturing & Inspection Review: Review and assess manufacturing, inspection, and testing methods to ensure the proper construction and qualification of space equipment and systems.
* Technical Support & Non-Conformance: Provide technical support in case of non-conformances, helping evaluate proposals, and ensuring materials and processes meet the required quality standards.
* Technical Reviews: Participate in and conduct technical reviews to evaluate the materials and processes used in the creation of future smart space solutions.
* Expertise Sharing: Share your in-depth expertise in metallurgy and ceramic materials with the team to ensure the optimal selection and application of materials.
* Collaboration with International Teams: Work closely with international teams to drive technical excellence and ensure alignment on materials and processes used in space technology.
Qualifications:
* PhD/Master’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a comparable qualification.
* Several years of experience in Materials and Processes Control (MMPP) within the space industry.
* Solid expertise in metallurgy and ceramic materials.
* In-depth knowledge of ECSS-ST-Q-70 standards for space systems.
* Experience with soldering, brazing, or welding is a clear advantage.
* Ability to work independently with an interdisciplinary mindset, and forward-looking approach to problem-solving.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and collaborate effectively in an international team environment.
* Fluency in English and a good level of proficiency in German.
* Willingness to travel for business.
Optional Skills:
* Experience in optical engineering, fracture mechanics, or product assurance in the space industry.
* Proficiency in French is a plus.
