TEAM
The position reports to the Head of EU PR & PA, is part of the wider easyJet external communications department and the role will be based in Berlin. The PR and PA Manager for Germany and Austria will be expected to work closely with the Director of PR and Corporate Affairs, Country Directors/Managers, and the wider European PR and PA team to ensure that easyJet is effectively represented externally in these markets.
The role will be responsible for the management of easyJet’s communications activities in Germany and Austria, with a particular focus on the German base at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), as well as network points in Hamburg (HAM), Munich (MUC), and Düsseldorf (DUS). In Austria, the role will support communications in relation to easyJet Europe and its Vienna-based AOC (Air Operator Certificate).
This will include dealing directly with media, politicians and stakeholders in these countries as well as the (ad hoc) co-ordination of local PR and PA agencies. They will be easyJet’s eyes and ears in-country and manage the airline’s reputation daily. They will love news and politics and will have proven experience of working with media.
They will also have excellent written skills and can grasp sometimes technical information and convert it into simple and understandable language. The role will be important to the overall communication strategy to protect and enhance the airline’s reputation and to promote its brand in its key European countries
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
>Protect and enhance easyJet’s reputation with media and stakeholders in Germany and Austria, implementing easyJet’s public relations and public affairs strategy at a national level
>Develop and oversee execution of country communications plans, in coordination with the Head of EU PR & PA and develop relevant materials including press statements, stakeholder letters, speaking notes and briefing documents
>Support easyJet´s sustainability objectives and work with the industry and policymakers to support and accelerate the change that’s needed. The airline takes sustainability seriously having joined the UN-backed Race to Zero in November 2021 and has recently published its roadmap to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050
>Monitor and analyse local political developments and media coverage relevant to easyJet
>Manage retained PR &PA agencies in Germany and Austria
>Build and maintain strong relationships with media, policymakers and external stakeholders in country together with Country Managers and senior easyJet representatives
>Project management/coordination of pan-European media launches
>Play a supporting role in the company’s crisis management procedures
>Be able to support on pan-European media issues and themes on an ad hoc basis
>Be able to support on other markets, in particular Switzerland, on an ad hoc basis
>To be part of the out of hours on call duty rota (1 in 8)
Requirements of the Role
KEY SKILLS REQUIRED
To be considered for this role you must have previous experience in a large, corporate environment or at an integrated communications agency. You must have strong media experience particularly with European media in at least some of the key countries you will be responsible for, as well as an understanding of corporate communications and issue management.
>Native German speaker and professional proficiency in English (other European languages an advantage)
>Proven experience in communications, media relations, government affairs, politics or policy roles
>Excellent interpersonal and team skills

LOCATION & HOURS OF WORK
This full time role will be based in Berlin and will be 40 hours per week.
