This is why you are going to love this role
Your role as Dcubed's Mechanical and Automation Technician in our Solar Array (SA) team will be to support the production team in mechanical assembly, automation setup and testing. Responsibilities include assembling deployable panels, integrating mechanical subsystems, and configuring automated test rigs. Additionally, assist engineers in developing production tooling, automation systems and GSE for current and future manufacturing needs.
Your responsibilities:
* Assemble and integrate space-grade solar arrays (mechanical structure, substrates, deployment mechanisms)
* Install deployable hinges, motors, actuators, and mechanical harnesses
* Operate and maintain automated assembly equipment and test benches
* Perform mechanical testing (torque, vibration, deployment cycle, alignment)
* Apply adhesives, bonding, and curing for mechanical joints
* Maintain strict FOD/cleanroom compliance
* Identify non-conformities and support AIT activities
Your background
Must-haves:
* As a professional you are detail and quality focused, proactive, structured and hands-on, and are not afraid to carry responsibility
* As a colleague, you are supportive, friendly and approachable
* Education: Technical degree or vocational training in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field
* 2–5 years in aerospace, robotics, automation, or high-reliability manufacturing
* Prior experience in mechanical assembly of complex structures and deployable mechanisms
* Prior experience in automated systems and precision tooling
* Programing, operation and maintenance of automation tools and robotic rigs
* Precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, and torque sensors
* Adhesive application, bonding, and curing processes
* Reading and interpreting mechanical schematics and drawings
* Troubleshooting mechanical and automation systems
* English (good technical and spoken)
Nice-to-haves:
* Experience with actuators, motors, and sensors
* PLCs or basic automation programming
* CAD / SolidWorks
* Environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum)
* Automation programming (Python or equivalent)
* Exposure to cleanroom or controlled environments
We have a lot happening in production and product development, so if building the future of reusable, high performance and reliable solar arrays sounds like something you would enjoy, now would be a good time to join Dcubed Apply
