SENIOR DATA PLATFORM ENGINEER*

The Data Science department uses statistical modeling, machine learning and optimization techniques to continuously improve business processes at NEW YORKER. We work in agile project teams on a variety of use cases, including order optimization, pricing, distribution and logistics. We are a very ambitious and international team and are proud of our high standards.
THAT'S THE JOB
1. Pro-actively maintain and monitor our distributed infrastructure and data pipelines (Spark, Airflow), reacting promptly to errors and outages
2. Drive the evolution of our data platform toward modern, scalable infrastructure
3. Monitor and analyze runtime behavior, including runtimes, resource usage and error rates across all data science pipelines
4. Participate in on-call rotations for platform reliability and incident response
5. Implement and enforce logging and monitoring strategies to make pipeline runtime characteristics transparent
6. Manage the data science development environment, installing and configuring required software and tools
7. Work with data engineering, data science, network, and datacenter teams to optimize system boundaries
8. Coordinate with suppliers and datacenter services to ensure hardware issues are fixed promptly
9. Maintain operational documentation and share knowledge through code reviews and mentoring
THAT'S WHAT WE NEED
10. 5+ years of experience in DevOps, systems engineering, or platform operations
11. The willingness and ability to work in a team with strong communication and hands-on mentality
12. The ability to work in a structured, independent and self-driven manner while aligning proactively with your team
13. Strong programming skills with a keen eye on scalability and maintainability in Python and Bash
14. Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
15. Strong Linux system administration skills
16. Understanding of big data infrastructure, networking, distributed systems and working with data
17. Languages: German (B1+, conversational) and English (fluent)
Nice to Have: Spark, Cloudera/Hadoop, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
