At the center of this transformation is our Business Development team — the first touchpoint for many of our future customers.

That’s where you come in: we’re hiring our first Head of Business Development. This role is absolutely crucial to our success. If you build the right motion in Germany, it will become the blueprint for scaling internationally.

About the Role

As our Head of Business Development, you will design, lead, and scale Exasol’s business development function. Starting with two direct reports in Germany, you will:

* Define the playbook for outbound and inbound lead generation.
* Recruit, coach, and inspire a team of top-performing BDRs.
* Partner closely with Sales, Marketing, and RevOps to build a predictable pipeline engine.
* Instill a culture of resilience, learning, and customer obsession.

You’ll be a builder, operator, and leader all in one — someone who thrives on creating structure from scratch, and who is energized by the responsibility of making a visible impact on Exasol’s future.

This is not a role for managers who sit back. We need a hands-on leader who loves to coach, jumps on calls with the team, and continuously refines the motion to win in enterprise B2B SaaS.

What You’ll Bring (Must-Haves)

* Fluent German speaker with excellent written and spoken English.
* Proven track record of building and scaling Business Development or Sales Development teams in B2B SaaS.
* Demonstrated ability to design outbound strategies, processes, and KPIs that drive measurable pipeline impact.
* Strong leadership presence — you inspire confidence, set high standards, and lead by example.
* A passion for coaching: you know how to hire, onboard, and develop early-career talent into future sales leaders.
* Data-driven mindset — you’re fluent in Salesforce (or similar CRM) and modern sales tools, and obsessed with pipeline quality.
* Strong collaboration skills with Sales, Marketing, and Product to ensure tight alignment across the funnel.
* Willingness to roll up your sleeves — from fine-tuning messaging to joining prospect calls with your team.

Bonus Points (Nice-to-Haves)

* Experience scaling BDR teams across multiple geographies.
* Familiarity with the data, analytics, or database technology market.
* Prior exposure to enterprise buying centers in financial services, retail, or public sector.
* Hands-on knowledge of enablement tools like Salesloft, Outreach, and LinkedIn Sales Navigator.

A Day in the Life of the Head of Business Development at Exasol

You start your morning with a team huddle in Munich, reviewing yesterday’s pipeline creation and celebrating wins. You coach a BDR on their call strategy for a top German bank, then sync with Marketing to refine the messaging for an upcoming campaign.

Midday, you sit with Sales Leadership to review pipeline coverage for the quarter and share insights from the front lines — what prospects are saying, where campaigns resonate, and where competitors are showing up.

In the afternoon, you jump into a prospect call with one of your BDRs, modeling discovery techniques that uncover a real opportunity. Later, you draft a hiring plan for the next 6 months, knowing your team’s success in Germany will become the template for expansion into the UK and beyond.

You leave the office knowing your work is directly shaping Exasol’s ability to scale into a category-defining business.
