Data Center Technician for long term freelance assignment based in Dusseldorf, Germany
My client a leading and international telecommunications service provider is hiring Data center engineers for long term contract roles based in the NRW region of Germany.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
* Perform basic server and network switch hardware troubleshooting, including cable replacement, memory (RAM) upgrade and replacement, and NVMe upgrade and replacement activities, setting EUI-64 address on servers, OOB Initial configuration etc.
* Execute structured cable laying and routing within the data center environment between servers, switches, ODFs and racks, following data center best practices.
* Identify and work with hardware from multiple vendors such as Dell, HPE, Cisco, including accurate identification of ports and interfaces.
* Site survey to evaluate rack / space and dependencies for the new hardware installation.
* Identify and handle various data center cables and connectors used for networking, power, and grounding, ensuring correct selection and usage.
* Preparing Material Requests and Return Material Requests based on the Material required for installation and returning surplus material.
* Raising CR, representing in CAB, managing the required notification to all stakeholders, CR starting and closure in portal.
* Installation and uninstallation of Hardware - Servers, switches etc. and interconnectivity.
* Prepare, install, terminate, and maintain different types of cables, including but not limited to:
* Cat6 / Cat6A
* Power cables (AC & DC)
* Grounding cables
* Fiber cables (LC-LC, LC-E2000, breakout cables, AOC etc.)
* Understand, update, and maintain cable connection documentation, rack layouts, and port-to-port connectivity records, Hardware Acceptance document.
* Provide on-site data center support across multiple locations in Germany, with extensive travel requirements of approximately 70-80%.
* Support planned maintenance activities, upgrades and changes, including availability during night hours, whenever required.
Required Skills & Experience
* Hands-on experience with Dell server infrastructure .
* Proficiency in hardware installation and upgrades (DIMM, NVMe, SFP modules).
* Strong understanding of data center power systems and circuit breaker management.
* Experience with infrastructure documentation and data center standards.
* Knowledge of remote server management tools (iDRAC) and BIOS configuration.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working in high-availability (HA) environments
* Familiarity with change management and incident response processes
* Relevant certifications (e.g., EFKffT certification )
