At the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, we may not be developing swords to fight the dark side of the Force, but our developments often sound like science fiction. That's because we are designing the technologies and processes for the future of digital production, packaging and scanner technology, and many other laser-based applications, such as 3D printing and laser fusion. Are you looking for an exciting job as a student assistant (m/f/d) that will change the future?


The »Ultrashort Pulse Lasers« group develops high-power ultrashort pulse laser sources (pulse duration < 1 ps) with average powers up to the kW range, as well as the simulation and measurement tools required for this. The spectrum of projects ranges from concept and prototype development for industrial laser manufacturers to publicly funded projects in the field of basic research, such as the generation of EUV radiation through nonlinear frequency conversion.



Be part of change

* You will assist in the planning, design, execution, and evaluation of experiments and the accompanying simulations and carefully document the results
* In addition, you will support the team in further developing and testing multiphysics simulation tools
* Your responsibilities will also include researching and procuring optical components and laboratory equipment
* Finally, you will prepare laser components for use in the cleanroom and handle the assembly of the components



What you contribute

* You are studying physics, mechanical engineering, computational engineering science, computer science, or a related field, and have performed well in your studies so far
* You work independently and enjoy applied research
* You are characterized by a broad technical interest and manual dexterity
* Previous laboratory experience with optical setups and knowledge of programming or design are advantageous but not required

Remuneration is based on the general collective agreement for the employment of temporary staff.
The weekly working hours are between 12 and 20 hours and will be agreed individually during the interview.
The position is initially limited to 12 months, but the aim is to offer longer-term employment alongside your studies.
