The Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy IEG conducts research at seven locations in the fields of integrated energy infrastructures, geothermal energy and sector coupling for a successful energy transition. In the group »Reservoir Geophysics«, we are seeking a motivated Student Research Assistant to support ongoing research in passive seismic monitoring for subsurface characterisation. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to research projects focused on ambient noise beamforming and numerical simulations related to geothermal energy and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) applications. The position will be located at our Bochum site.

* Supporting the processing and analysis of passive seismic array datasets
* Assisting with beamforming and ambient noise analysis workflows
* Maintaining and developing Python-based analysis scripts and automated workflows
* Supporting literature reviews, scientific documentation, and the presentation of results within the research group
What you contribute
* Enrolled student in Geophysics, Geosciences, Physics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field, with a B.Sc. degree already completed
* Interest in seismology, passive seismic monitoring, signal processing, or data analysis
* Basic programming skills, preferably in Python
* Familiarity with Linux environments is an advantage
* Interest in scientific computing, numerical methods, or HPC workflows is beneficial
* Experience with ObsPy, NumPy, or seismic data processing is a plus
* Strong motivation, curiosity, and willingness to learn
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team
* Excellent proficiency in English (written and spoken)
