(Senior) Quantum Hardware Engineer -
Permanent Position · Full-time · Garching near Munich (DE), Ulm (DE)
Your Mission
Join a pioneering team at the forefront of quantum technology. As a Quantum Hardware Engineer, you’ll collaborate closely with leading scientists, software developers, mechanical and electrical engineers, and algorithm specialists to design, build, and refine state-of-the-art quantum computers for real-world applications.
What You’ll Do
* Own a Module
Take technical ownership of a key hardware component — such as an imaging system, optical tweezer generation, or part of the laser distribution network.
* System Integration
Integrate your module into the complete quantum computing system, optimizing its performance in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
* Project Rotation
Once a module is successfully integrated, transition to new challenges and contribute to future systems.
* Collaborative Development
Work hand-in-hand with experts from software, mechanical, and electrical engineering to develop and implement cutting-edge solutions.
* Continuous Learning
Stay up to date on the latest developments in AMO (atomic, molecular, optical) physics and apply new insights to push system capabilities forward.
What You Bring
Essential Qualifications:
* PhD or postdoctoral research background in AMO physics.
* Hands-on expertise in laser and optical system setup and operation.
* Experience with one or more of the following areas during your academic career:
* Atom arrays using optical tweezers
* Alkaline-earth-metal atoms
* Rydberg atoms
* UHV systems for ultracold atoms or trapped ions
* High numerical aperture imaging and addressing
* Ultra-stable laser systems (frequency and amplitude stability)
Bonus Skills:
* Programming experience (e.g., Python)
* Electronics design knowledge
* Mechanical design experience
* Data analysis skills
* Prior industry experience is a strong plus
If you have a PhD in AMO physics and hands-on experience with neutral atoms or ion systems, there’s a good chance you’re a great fit. We’d love to hear from you!
