Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg ) is responsible for Advanced Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning. Huawei Digital Power is a business unit within Huawei that provides Enterprise & Industry customers, products and solutions like clean power generation, transportation electrification, site power facilities, data center facilities, and embedded power. The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) is responsible for Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design and Strategic Technology Planning, and plays an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business in the design and development of power converters and control systems for applications such as PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage Field, Data Centers, Electric Vehicle, and Embedded Power Supply. Join us as a Industrial PhD Researcher – High voltage SiC switch for Medium-Voltage Applications (m/f/d) Your mission You will perform literature analysis and technical insights to identify challenges and future trends in Medium-Voltage (MV) Photovoltaic (PV) and Energy Storage System (ESS) applications. You will research on achieving a high-voltage switch based on available Silicon Carbide (SiC) power devices. You will research on gate-driving techniques to insure dynamic and static voltage balancing. You will design and implementation of suitable packaging technologies facilitating the series connection of high-voltage SiC devices. You will experimentally demonstrate the feasibility, proof of concepts and advantages of new findings in lab environment. You will attend world-class academic conferences and exhibitions to help identify future trend and directions for MV renewable applications You will document research fundings by means of patents, reports or publications in reputed journals/conferences Your areas of expertise A Master of Science (MSc) or equivalent degree in Power Electronics, Power Engineering or relevant Electrical & Electronics discipline Hands-on experience in a laboratory or R&D environment is a plus Solid knowledge of wide-bandgap semiconductor devices (especially SiC), gate-drivers, packaging, semiconductor physics, and power electronic topologies Experience in semiconductor static and dynamic characterization Familiarity with gate-driver design, including PCB design with analog and digital electronic circuits Experience in the electrical characterization of power electronics packaging Good working knowledge of one or more of the following software tools is advantageous: MATLAB, Simulink, PLECS, Python, Octave A target-oriented, structured mindset with an eagerness to learn new topics Very good written and spoken English, and open to cooperate in a multicultural and international team By applying to this position, you agree with our Recruitment Privacy Statement.
