Job Description
Western Digital is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Quality Engineer to support and enhance our quality systems across the product lifecycle. This role plays a critical part in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
You will partner cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and business teams to drive continuous improvement, strengthen quality processes, and support compliance with global standards.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Planning & Systems
* Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance plans, inspection procedures, and documentation
* Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001 and internal quality frameworks
* Support the continuous evolution of quality management systems
Auditing & Compliance
* Conduct internal audits to assess process adherence and identify improvement opportunities
* Support external audits, including supplier and customer audits
* Drive corrective and preventive actions based on audit findings
Quality Reporting & Analytics
* Define, track, and analyze key quality performance indicators (KPIs)
* Prepare and present reports to management with actionable insights
* Leverage data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Partner closely with R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales teams
* Ensure quality is embedded throughout the entire product lifecycle—from design through production and delivery
* Act as a key interface between technical and business stakeholders
Process Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
* Monitor production processes and identify defects or deviations
* Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies
Qualifications
Education
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
Experience
* Proven experience in quality assurance or quality engineering, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Technical Expertise
* Strong knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, including:
o FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
o Six Sigma / Lean methodologies
o SPC (Statistical Process Control)
o 8D problem-solving process
* Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001
Skills
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
* High attention to detail and process discipline
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, global teams
Languages
* Business fluency in German and English (written and spoken)
