Department 713 “Global Competition Law” supports the antitrust‑compliant design and implementation of business activities worldwide and provides specialist departments with deep antitrust expertise in areas such as contracts, product development, cooperation agreements and M&A transactions. It develops and conducts targeted training sessions to sustainably promote antitrust compliance within the company. In addition, the unit handles complex antitrust proceedings before authorities and courts, thereby contributing to safeguarding the company’s legal position in strategically important cases.

Key Responsibilities:
Subject Matter Law Senior Specialist (f/m/d)
Advising Group companies on strategic issues in the fields of antitrust and competition law, particularly merger control and mergers & acquisitions (M&A).
* Advising Group companies and (top) management on strategic decisions related to corporate mergers (e.g., acquisitions) and the establishment of joint ventures, including the associated antitrust requirements and other conditions to ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements. This includes:
o Assessing filing obligations, preparing and supporting merger control proceedings before the German Federal Cartel Office, the European Commission, and authorities outside the EU, including feasibility assessments under merger control law.
o Preparing and supporting foreign direct investment and foreign subsidy control procedures (“FDI / FSR proceedings”).
o Supporting and steering cross‑functional (project) teams within merger control and FDI / FSR proceedings.
o Close cooperation with internal stakeholders, such as Business Development, Finance, Compliance, and Operations, as well as managing external parties (e.g., law firms, economic consultants).
o (Partial) representation in negotiations before courts, e.g., in antitrust investigations in Germany.
o Preparing and (partially) presenting solutions and decision papers for senior management of DHL Group.
* Asserting and enforcing claims (particularly damages claims) due to competitive infringements by third parties, as well as defending the company against such claims.
* Providing subject‑matter support to the “Competition Know‑How Group”, which—on a global scale—facilitates knowledge transfer, exchange of best practices and updates on legal developments in antitrust and competition law among specialized lawyers and compliance officers of DHL Group.
* Preparing and conducting internal training sessions for employees and leaders in competition and antitrust law.
* Contributing to and advising on M&A activities, including accompanying global corporate transactions such as company acquisitions and the establishment of joint ventures, including collaboration and coordination with local legal departments.
* Negotiating and advising on M&A contracts such as NDAs, SPAs and JVAs, including coordination of legal matters with internal stakeholders as well as preparing and supporting internal decision‑making processes (e.g., committee approvals).
* Monitoring developments in relevant areas of law, including precedent cases and legislative initiatives.
* (Further) developing guidelines (e.g., Antitrust Guideline), strategies and processes within DHL Group to ensure compliance and optimize procedures, including worldwide workflows.
* Managing relationships with external partners (e.g., authority contacts, law firms, consultants).
Professional Requirements:
* Completed law degree and German Second State Examination.
* Many years of relevant professional experience in antitrust and merger control law, preferably in an international company or international law firm.
* Experience coordinating antitrust/merger control proceedings and working with competition authorities.
* Initial experience with and interest in M&A topics.
* Interest in economic and business‑related contexts.
* Excellent German and English skills.
