Huawei is a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. Driven by a commitment to operations, ongoing innovation, and open collaboration, we have established a competitive ICT portfolio of end-to-end solutions in Telecom and enterprise networks, Devices and Cloud technology and services. Our ICT solutions, products and services are used in more than 170 countries and regions, serving over one-third of the world's population. With 197,000 employees, Huawei is committed to develop the future information society and build a Better Connected World. Huawei’s German Research Center is responsible for advanced technical research, architecture evolution design and strategic technical planning. The Huawei Optical Technology Laboratory in Munich researches and develops signal processing, components and systems for fixed access, data center networks, metro and long-haul optical networks. The department engages in local research and collaborates with academic and industrial partners from the European ecosystem. Now we are looking for a: Photonic Components & System-Level Researcher (m/f/d) Responsibilities System-Driven Component Design: Develop photonic components (lasers, modulators, SOAs) optimized for real-world system performance in access networks, data centers, and long-haul systems. End-to-End PIC Integration: Design and validate integrated circuits (PICs) with embedded system-level constraints, ensuring seamless compatibility with optical networks and specifically PONs. System-Level Characterization: Measure device performance under system conditions (e.g., chromatic dispersion tolerance, OSNR requirements) Model system-level trade-offs (power budget, latency, error rates) for component integration Cross-Technology Optimization : Research hybrid integration strategies (monolithic SiPh/III-V, epitaxial integration) to balance component efficiency with system scalability. Product Impact Acceleration : Partner with systems teams to co-design solutions addressing next generation products and network challenges, ensuring lab-to-fab consistency. Industry Leadership : Publish system-level breakthroughs in top venues and journals (OFC, ECOC, JLT, PTL) and help define standards for next-gen access networks Requirements PhD in optical communications systems or photonics integration with 3 years of hands-on experience Proven track record of high-speed photonic components or PICs design and characterization Expertise in: High-speed component characterization (>50Gbps) Photonic devices and circuits design and simulation tools (such as ADS, FIMMWAVE,IPKISS, Lumerical). Multi-physics modeling (thermal/optical coupling) System-level simulation tools (OptiSystem, VPItransmissionMaker) and end-to-end performance optimization (link margin analysis, nonlinear effects mitigation) Language: Fluent in English; Strong publication record (min 8 journal/conference papers) By applying to this position, you agree with our RECRUITMENT PRIVACY STATEMENT.
