A Quantum computing company based in Munich are seeking to bolster their team with a dynamic Optical Engineer.
Please note this role is on-site in Munich.
Responsibilities
* Design, build, and align advanced free-space and fibre-based optical systems for quantum processor development.
* Optimise optical performance, tolerances, and manufacturability for high-precision setups.
* Develop custom optical components and integrated optomechanical assemblies with focus on stability and modularity.
* Automate, monitor, and troubleshoot optical subsystems, creating diagnostic tools for continuous operation.
* Document designs, alignment methods, and test results while contributing to design reviews and system improvements.
Requirements
* Master’s or PhD in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
* 5–8+ years of experience designing and implementing optical or optomechanical systems in research or industry.
* Proven hands-on expertise in optical alignment and assembly.
* Proficiency with CAD and optical design tools such as Zemax and SolidWorks.
* Strong understanding of lasers, modulators, high-NA systems, and preferably optical resonators or microscopy, with a passion for iterative prototyping.
