The University Hospital Heidelberg is one of the major healthcare centers in Germany. With about 14,000 employees in more than 50 specialized clinical departments with almost 2,500 beds, about 80,000 patients in part-time and full-time inpatient treatment as well as 1,000,000 patients in ambulant treatment are medicated each year.
Postdoctoral Researcher (d/f/m)
wanted of the next possible date at Department of Neuropathology at the University Hospital Heidelberg.
We are a DFG-funded research group within the Department of Neuropathology at the University Hospital Heidelberg. Our work focuses on understanding brain tumor biology and developing innovative diagnostic tools to improve patient care. These efforts are enabled by our department's world-leading collection of brain tumour samples which are complemented by DNA methylation, DNA and RNA sequencing as well as clinical data.
Together with the Artificial Intelligence and Cancer Evolution Division at the German Cancer Research Centre DKFZ, led by Moritz Gerstung, we have recently established a systematic spatial transcriptomics programme to gain deeper insights into how different types of brain tumours grow and how brain tumour and brain resident cells interact in this process.
You will contribute to these research efforts by analysing spatial transcriptomics data from hundreds of brain tumours to establish the molecular underpinnings of tumour growth patterns and the cellular interactions enabling malignancy. The integration with available methylation, histopathologogical and clinical data will help establish links to current diagnostic procedures and facilitate the rapid translation of your findings. You will be a co-supervised by Abigail Suwala and Moritz Gerstung, offering a unique opportunity to further develop your skills at the intersection of AI and translational neuropathology.
You will benefit from excellent core facilities as well as a dynamic and creative interdisciplinary research atmosphere.
