The Process Engineer will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting mineral processing circuits with a focus on copper, gold, and manganese ores. The role involves process design, metallurgical test work, mass balance development, flowsheet modeling, and operational support to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
•Process Design & Engineering
•Develop and optimize process flowsheets for comminution, flotation, leaching, gravity separation, and hydrometallurgy (e.g., SX/EW, CIL/CIP).
•Prepare mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and process simulations.
•Review and prepare PFDs, P&IDs, and process descriptions.
•Metallurgical Test Work
•Define and supervise laboratory and pilot-scale test programs for copper, gold, and manganese ores.
•Analyze metallurgical data and translate results into plant design and operating parameters.
•Operational Support
•Monitor plant performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements.
•Conduct troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for process issues.
•Support commissioning, start-up, and ramp-up of processing plants.
•Project Support
•Provide process input for feasibility studies, basic and detailed engineering.
•Support procurement with technical specifications for process equipment.
•Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, automation, project management).
•Sustainability & Compliance
•Ensure process designs meet HSE standards, environmental regulations, and sustainability targets.
•Optimize reagent consumption, water, and energy usage.
Qualifications & Skills
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Process Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
•8 years of experience in mineral processing with focus on copper, gold, or manganese projects/plants.
•Strong knowledge of unit operations: crushing, grinding, classification, flotation, leaching, solid-liquid separation, and SX/EW.
•Familiarity with software tools (METSIM, HSC, ORC).
•Hands-on experience with plant commissioning, operation, and troubleshooting.
•Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.
•Excellent communication skills in English (additional languages an asset).
•Willingness to travel to project/plant sites internationally.
Preferredww Competencies
•Experience in hydrometallurgical processes (acid leaching, heap leach, CIL/CIP, SX/EW).
•Exposure to both greenfield and brownfield projects.
•Understanding of international mining & processing standards.
•Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
