We are looking for a Senior Underwriter Marine Hull (m/f/d), based in Hamburg.

The Impact You Will Have
Joining the Underwriting Marine team in Hamburg, you will take prime responsibility for underwriting profitable new and renewal business to meet the Marine Hull targets in accordance with underwriting guidelines and underwriting authority. Reporting to the Head of Marine Hull, you will negotiate pricing and terms and conditions, own accounts/clients, while developing and maintaining strong relationships with producers and clients in partnership with Market Management.
Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
* Support the successful execution of the Marine business plan.
* Underwrite new and renewal business.
* Demonstrate in-depth technical expertise and lead capabilities.
* Negotiate participation, pricing and terms and conditions with clients and brokers.
* Analyse the existing portfolio to ensure long-term profitability.
* Establish and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders.
* Contribute to the development of regional Underwriting strategy for Marine.
* Actively drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting process, including Distribution, Risk Consulting, Claims, Operations, etc.
* Present in team and divisional meetings.
* Collaborate on ad-hoc projects in a welcoming and dynamic team.
What You'll Bring to the Role
* Degree preferably in Law, Economics, as 'Schifffahrtskaufmann' or other appropriate discipline (e.g. Insurance specialized Technical (IHK)).
* Significant experience in Underwriting Marine Hull with focus on Ocean Hull, alternatively similar experience from a job role closely linked to Underwriting.
* Well-recognized relationships with brokers at peer group level and well-established within the Marine Hull market.
* Excellent analytical skills with the ability to analyze current performance against benchmarks applying how the market operates and functions, the business needs and customer needs.
* Commercial acumen and a demonstrated ability to learn and mentor technical Underwriting skills.
* Strong understanding of legal and regulatory framework.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Ability to integrate AI-driven insights into your work to optimize outcomes and support broader organizational goals.
* Experience working in a complex global matrix organization.
* Ideally, completion of professional insurance qualification (e.g. CII).
* FluentEnglish and German skillsare required
