Mackenzie Stuart is partnered with a leading innovator in quantum technology seeking a visionary VP of Foundations and Concepts. This pivotal role involves spearheading the theoretical exploration and enhancement of the client's MAGIC approach, driving innovation in quantum information processing, and scaling their systems to new heights.
The executive will lead a talented team of eight theoretical physicists, collaborating closely with experimental physicists, software developers, and key stakeholders to refine and expand the theoretical underpinnings of the client's quantum systems. A critical part of this role will be identifying strengths and weaknesses in the approach and developing new concepts to ensure the systems are cutting-edge and scalable.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead a team of eight theoretical physicists, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
* Own the theoretical vision, strategy, and roadmap for the client's MAGIC approach.
* Identify emerging trends in quantum information processing to maintain a competitive edge. Develop a multi-year theoretical plan balancing short-term performance improvements with long-term scalability.
* Manage the end-to-end development of quantum software tools, including compilers and error correction.
* Engage with internal teams and industry stakeholders to gather insights on system requirements.
* Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and operations to ensure system feasibility and optimization.
* Lead the development of quantum tools for system development, optimization, and operation.
Qualifications:
* PhD in Physics with a strong emphasis on theoretical physics.
* Experience in experimental physics is a plus.
* Strong foundation in quantum information processing and programming in Python.
* Knowledge of numerical simulation, system modeling, and QUISKIT.
* Ideally, initial experience in error correction.
* Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex theoretical concepts into practical engineering solutions.
* Ability to visualize complex issues and make them tangible.
* Background in a company, research institute, or professionally organized university.
Location:
* Candidate must be based in, or willing to relocate to Hamburg or Siegen, Germany.
Salary:
* €130,000-150,000 base salary + benefits.
