Intern R&D engineer – Simulation AI
Curious about how AI can support engineering innovation?
We’re looking for an intern to join our Simulation team and explore how Artificial Intelligence could be used to support and enhance our simulation workflows. The focus of the project is to evaluate a practical use case, involving real-world data and engineering challenges, with room to investigate potential applications of AI in simulation.
You’ll be part of a collaborative R&D environment where your work will contribute to our understanding of how AI might fit into the future of medical device development. It’s a great opportunity to apply your skills, learn from experienced engineers, and gain hands-on experience in a global company.
The position is based at our Innovation Site in Augsburg, Germany (40 hours/week), duration: 6 months starting in October 2025.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be in a key position to influence the future of simulation at Ambu. You can expect to:
* Get to know our simulation processes and tools.
* Research how AI and machine learning are being used in engineering simulations.
* Identify areas where AI could support or improve our workflows.
* Collaborate with engineers to explore or prototype promising use cases in more detail.
* Summarize your findings and help us understand what’s worth pursuing further.
Qualifications
We understand that skills and experience come in many forms. You are likely to succeed in this internship if you:
* Are studying Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computational Science, or similar fields.
* Have a strong interest in AI/ML and its application to engineering problems.
* Have had some exposure to simulation tools (e.g., Ansys, Abaqus, Nastran, OpenFOAM or similar).
* Are analytical, structured, and capable of working independently.
* Have strong communication skills and enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams.
* Are fluent in English and enjoy working in an international environment.
Ambu – a visionary and international workplace where your efforts matter
