Field of activity

This position (Kennziffer: FK 03-325/3) is to be filled at the earliest possible date for a period of 5 years. A permanent position is planned following a positive evaluation

Your professorship encompasses the development of innovative approaches for the treatment of retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), hereditary retinal diseases and glaucoma. A special focus is on research and the application of novel strategies for the prevention of neuronal cell loss. The characterisation of the underlying molecular pathomechanisms is a further aim. Another major area of activity is the development and application of innovative carrier systems for efficient drug delivery and gene transfer systems to achieve new treatment options. In this context, the development of new treatment strategies for lysosomal storage diseases and other degenerative retinal diseases is of particular importance. This involves the further development and maintenance of existing (animal) models. The establishment of further models such as organ cultures and spheroids for investigating the pathogenesis of retinal diseases is a prerequisite. These preclinical approaches are to be actively translated into clinical applications to promote innovative therapies for degenerative retinal diseases. This requires previous and existing collaborations with the pharmaceutical industry.
