The position is funded subject to funding approval by third party and offered until 31 December 2029. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).
The position is based at the LOEWE Center " DynaRel - Dynamics of Religion: Ambivalent Neighborhoods between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam in Historical and Contemporary Constellations," which brings together Goethe University Frankfurt, Philipps University of Marburg and Justus Liebig University Giessen in interdisciplinary collaboration with international and national partners.
The project "The influence of religious neighborhoods on the acculturation of migrants in the context of secularization and social polarization" (PI: Prof. Dr. Antje Röder) aims to operationalize the concept of "neighborhoods" for quantitative religious research and to further develop it theoretically. Empirically, it links survey data at the individual level with relevant contextual variables in order to examine their effects at the local and national levels.
Tasks:
* Scientific services in research
* Operationalization of the neighborhood concept for quantitative (religious) research
* Developing theoretical frameworks on the influence of religious neighborhoods, secularization processes, and social polarization on acculturation processes
* Preparation and analysis of secondary data and publication of results
* Development and application of innovative methods to capture relevant context variables (e.g., LLMs, geolocated data)
* Participation in the activities of the LOEWE Center DynaRel (e.g., joint events, third-party funding initiatives, science communication)
This is a fixed-term project position. The contract is not concluded under Section 2 (1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).
Profile:
* MSc-degree or equivalent in sociology, political science or a comparable social science degree, as well as a doctorate in sociology, political science or a comparable subject
* Research interest and experience in the field of quantitative migration, religion and/or neighborhood research
* Very good knowledge of quantitative methods (especially analysis of complex secondary data sets)
* Experience with or potential for publications in international peer-reviewed journals
* Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and the further development of the LOEWE Center DynaRel
* Very good knowledge of English
