Responsibilities We are looking for a Process Engineer to support the development and optimization of optical coupling processes for advanced optical communication products. A key part of this role is working with automated alignment and assembly equipment (e.g., Ficontec platforms). Therefore, the ideal candidate brings not only process engineering expertise, but also a solid conceptual understanding of programming structured, multi-step automated process flows. You will work on high-precision coupling steps connecting lasers, modulators, fibers, lenses, and other optical components, while collaborating closely with design, production, and quality teams. Develop, optimize, and maintain optical coupling processes for optical communication modules (fiber attach, active/passive alignment, lens/waveguide coupling, etc.). Design and refine automated process sequences on alignment equipment (e.g., Ficontec) Analyze process data, perform structured experiments, and improve yield, stability, and throughput. Support process qualifications, documentation, and smooth transfer into manufacturing. Troubleshoot alignment and assembly issues and implement corrective actions. Create and maintain technical drawings, process documentation, and work instructions. Provide hands-on support during pilot builds, production ramp-up, and continuous improvement activities. Qualifications Degree in Physics, Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Semiconductor Technology, or similar. Several years of experience in optoelectronics, photonics assembly, semiconductor processing, or precision optical assemblies. Good understanding of optical coupling and alignment principles. Conceptual programming/automation understanding (workflow logic, sequence control, multi-step processes) Basic skills in Python, LabVIEW, PLC, or similar languages/environments used for automation. Good English skills. German is a plus. Familiar with working in cross-functional teams.
