Expert Emergency Response- Finance (Part time 60%)*

Homebased

The position is to be filled as soon as possible with a contract duration until 31.12.2028. Employment will be home based with deployments to WHH areas of operation.

As Expert Emergency Response responsible for Finance, you will support and strengthen Welthungerhilfe’s humanitarian operations through the development, coordination, and implementation of emergency response interventions in fragile and crisis-affected contexts. You will contribute to high-quality humanitarian programming across the full project cycle, with a particular focus on administration and finance, while ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational standards.

In this role, you will work closely with head office, country teams, partners, and other relevant stakeholders to support timely and effective humanitarian responses worldwide.

This position is part of WHH’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), a globally deployable pool of humanitarian experts supporting emergency operations during sudden-onset crises and increased humanitarian needs worldwide.

The position is home-based and part-time (60%), with a significant amount of time spent on international deployments to support emergency response operations in the field.

Your responsibilities

1. Contribute to the strategic development of WHH’s emergency response portfolio
2. Manage and monitor project budgets, financial planning, and administrative processes in compliance with donor and organizational requirements
3. Support country teams and partner organizations in finance, administration, compliance, and emergency response-related matters
4. Conduct financial monitoring, reviews, and risk assessments to ensure accountability and proper use of funds
5. Support the development of donor proposals, reports, and funding opportunities in line with institutional donor requirements with focus on finance
6. Represent WHH in relevant coordination forums, networks, and stakeholder meetings where required
7. Design and facilitate trainings, workshops, and capacity-sharing activities related to emergency response, administration, and finance
8. Collaborate closely with head office, country offices, and international partners in multicultural and challenging environments
9. Maintain readiness for rapid emergency deployments within 48 hours and support field operations globally for up to 3 months when required

Your profile

10. University degree in humanitarian assistance, international development, business administration, finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience
11. Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in humanitarian emergency response, preferably in fragile or conflict-affected contexts
12. Proven experience in project cycle management, including budgeting, financial management, and donor compliance
13. Experience working with institutional donors and managing grants in line with donor regulations and reporting requirements
14. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in dynamic environments
15. Experience supporting or coordinating local partner organizations and working in multicultural and interdisciplinary teams
16. Knowledge of security management, emergency preparedness, and rapid response mechanisms is considered an asset
17. Strong interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to represent the organization in coordination forums and stakeholder meetings
18. High level of flexibility and willingness to deploy globally within short notice, including field assignments of up to 3 months in challenging environments
19. You recognize the growing value of data in your field and are eager to build your awareness and skills to incorporate data-informed approaches into your work.
20. Excellent command of English and French, both written and spoken; German and additional languages are an advantage
