We are seeking a highly skilled Web Developer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and maintain a dedicated online application portal for recruiting excellent doctoral researchers within the Max Planck Artificial Intelligence Network (MP‑AIX).
Job Description
This role will involve implementing new features in coordination with different stakeholders, including faculty members, scientific coordinators, and doctoral researchers, in collaboration with ELLIS and software development partners.
* Develop and maintain a scalable and user-friendly web application platform
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration with other systems and processes
* Implement and optimize existing features to improve performance and user experience
* Refactor and improve separation of concerns within the codebase
* Improve UI/UX in coordination with stakeholders
Requirements and Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent qualification/experience
* Experience developing web apps and websites using standard web technologies and services
* Experience with Ruby on Rails or similar MVC-based framework such as Laravel
* Good frontend skills, especially in JavaScript
* Experience with databases and basic SQL knowledge (MySQL/PostgreSQL)
* Basic knowledge of Git and Linux CLI
* Ideal candidate will also have experience with Bootstrap and Google Material Design, gradual refactoring, debugging/monitoring skills, and experience working with GitLab
* Experience using automated testing framework, ideally BDD tool such as Cucumber
* Exposure to web server configuration/admin (nginx)
* Willingness to work on legacy code
* Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
* Very good command of English
