Join our international team as a Claims Manager and lead the way in ensuring contractual integrity, driving operational excellence, and making an impact in global scrap metal trading. Your mission Claims Handling: Manage claims related to quality, quantity, and contractual disputes in scrap metal trading, including direct involvement in financial negotiations and settlements to ensure outcomes. Investigation & Resolution: Conduct thorough investigations into claims, gathering evidence, and negotiating resolutions with suppliers, buyers, and logistics providers. This includes detecting potential fraud (e.g., weight discrepancies, contamination), and enforcing quality control standards during the claims process. Contract & Compliance Review: Ensure adherence to contractual terms, international trade regulations, and environmental compliance laws, while also complying with specific regulations applicable to the scrap metal industry. Supplier & Customer Coordination: Liaise with suppliers and buyers to resolve disputes efficiently while maintaining strong business relationships through transparent communication and effective negotiation. Logistics & Insurance Claims: Work with shipping companies, freight forwarders, and insurers to handle transportation-related claims, ensuring prompt resolution and minimal operational disruption. Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of claims, settlements, and dispute resolutions for audit, regulatory, and legal purposes. Cost Recovery & Risk Mitigation: Identify opportunities for cost recovery and implement strategies to minimize future claims, incorporating fraud detection mechanisms and preventive quality control measures. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with our trading and finance teams to streamline claims management, facilitate settlement negotiations, and support risk and compliance initiatives. Your profile Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in claims management, preferably in the scrap metal, commodities, or trading sector. Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of scrap metal trading, quality standards, and market dynamics as well as familiarity with international trade regulations, environmental policies, and contract law. Material Inspection Expertise: Practical knowledge of scrap and recycled metals, with the ability to assess physical material discrepancies on-site. Assertive Communication: Strong and confident communicator who thrives in dynamic environments with shifting priorities, competing interests, and the need for clear, decisive action. Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate settlements and resolve disputes efficiently. Analytical Skills: Ability to assess claims, interpret contracts, and analyze data for informed decision-making paired with the capability to manage multiple claims simultaneously with precision and accuracy. Third-Party Oversight: Capable of managing and, where necessary, challenging third-party inspection agencies to ensure accountability and fair assessment. Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in claims management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and ERP platforms. Willingness to Travel: Ability to travel internationally on short notice to oversee loadings, unloadings, or inspections at ports, warehouses, or supplier sites.
