Role Summary
SMBC’s Leveraged Finance team is looking for a motivated and analytical Associate to join our Frankfurt office. This is a unique opportunity to work on high-profile transactions, learn from experienced professionals, and grow within a leading European leveraged finance platform. As an Associate, you’ll be an integral part of our deal teams, supporting the execution of leveraged buyouts, acquisition financings, and refinancings. You’ll gain hands-on experience in financial modelling, credit analysis, and transaction execution, while building your network in the private equity and debt markets.

About SMBC Leveraged Finance
SMBC’s Leveraged Finance Origination team (“OG1”) is a leading provider of structured financing solutions for mid and large-cap clients across Europe. With over 60 professionals across London, Frankfurt, and Paris, the team delivers underwritten and direct lending solutions through SMBC’s balance sheet and proprietary funds. OG1 works closely with portfolio management, legal, capital markets, and credit teams to deliver high-quality execution and long-term client partnerships.
Position Description
Key Responsibilities
* Support the execution of leveraged finance transactions across the DACH region
* Build and maintain robust financial models and perform credit analysis under senior guidance
* Assist in preparing internal credit memos and syndication materials
* Contribute to the preparation of marketing pitches and client presentations
* Help coordinate internal processes and collaborate with internal teams
* Interface with clients on specific due diligence matters, financial model outputs, and syndication feedback
* Analyse results of technical analysis and form opinions in familiar situations
* Ensure high standards of accuracy and consistency in deliverables
* Work collaboratively within deal teams to drive successful transaction outcomes
Qualifications
* University degree in finance, economics, or a related field
* Prior work experience in investment banking, private equity, or corporate finance
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
* Basic to proficient technical analysis capabilities, including Excel modelling and financial statement interpretation
* Ability to concisely formulate and present factual data
* Solid understanding of valuation techniques and corporate finance principles
* Team-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills
* Fluency in English required; German proficiency is a strong plus
