Your responsibilities:
The School of Science is particularly interested in a candidate who combines experimental and computational approaches for the development, modeling, controlling, and optimization of biotechnological processes. The implementation of AI, machine learning, and data-driven control/optimization is highly welcome. The successful candidate is expected to engage in innovative research in bioprocess engineering, and to maintain a cutting-edge, externally funded research program that synergizes with existing research groups in the School of Science, e.g., in the fields of metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, systems biology and bionanomaterials.
The successful candidate will conduct teaching in the field of biotechnology, including fundamental and advanced lectures and laboratories at the BSc, MSc, and PhD level. The expertise in teaching bioprocess engineering is supposed to particularly strengthen the BSc program “Chemistry and Biotechnology”.
Moreover, the candidate is expected to take a pivotal role in the MSc programs “Quantitative Life Science”and “Advanced Materials” with research experience and via the development and implementation of innovative, pedagogically sound approaches to online, hybrid and in-person teaching and learning. This will also include the advising of students on their studies, and the supervision of Bachelor, Master and PhD theses and research projects.
Qualifications and experience:
PhD degree in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field;
Strong publication record in relevant international journals;
Documented research activities using modern technologies applied in bioprocess engineering;
Experience in transferring research knowledge into industrial applications;
Experience in the acquisition of Third-Party funding;
Experience in successful teaching in international and diverse environments, with a demonstratable interest in applying innovative teaching and learning approaches;
Intercultural experience and competence;
Responsible, self-motivated person able to work independently and as a part of a team;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, the language of instruction and communication on campus;
Ideally, the successful candidate should be eligible for an ERC starting grant (assistant level) or an ERC consolidator grant (associate level).
