Principal Consultant – Electrical Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Consultant – Electrical Engineer to join our team of Maritime experts in our office in Hamburg, Germany. What you will be doing:
1. Work as technical lead on projects to accomplish the overall delivery of optimum solutions to clients within the timeframe, costs and quality standards established.
2. Represent OWC as a key domain expert, sharing knowledge and experience to support the wider development of competencies within OWC to enhance overall assignment execution to clients.
3. Generate and prospect leads – including representing OWC at conferences, seminars and meetings to establish business development leads and to market OWC to prospective clients.
4. Follow up on leads to generate new work.
5. Independently prepare tenders and proposals.
6. Consult on all matters of due diligence of procurement tenders and connection offers, technical studies of power systems, optimization studies, technical problem solving, owner’s engineering, design work and cost-benefit analysis for offshore/onshore renewable electrical systems and infrastructure.
7. Responsible for keeping projects on budget and schedule.
8. Attend regular internal meetings and external/third-party meetings as required.
9. Ensure all deliverables are conducted in full compliance with approved instructions, procedures and policies.
10. Manage multi-discipline teams of engineers (and other technical staff) in the completion of assignments for innovative clients.
11. Maintain a consistently high degree of quality and technical excellence in all work products.
12. Mentor and support other team members.
13. Identify and communicate relevant technological developments or regulatory changes which may impact the business or provide new opportunities.
The role will be office based in Hamburg, Germany. The candidate should have the right to live and work in Hamburg, Germany. Occasional onsite attendance may be expected.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a self-driven, insightful, and solution-oriented professional with good interpersonal skills. The successful candidate can work independently and efficiently, even in high-pressure situations. A strong team player with a proactive approach. Attention to detail, a high level of numerical accuracy, and the ability to prioritize work are key to success as is the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts.
In addition, you will also possess the following Qualifications, Work Experience, Technical and Behavioural skills:
1. Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Electrical/Power Engineering, with first or upper-second-class honours.
2. 10-12 years of experience in electrical engineering, focusing on renewable energy and high-voltage projects.
3. Skilled in technical documentation, including reports, specifications, and drawings (AutoCAD & Visio).
4. Strong knowledge of the energy industry, particularly offshore wind farms and renewable projects.
5. Proficient in MS Office and AutoCAD, with the ability to quickly learn new engineering software.
6. Independent thinker with problem-solving skills, capable of leading complex projects with minimal supervision.
7. Excellent English communication, both written and verbal, with fluency in German.
8. Familiar with commercial and contractual aspects, offering guidance to clients.
9. Experienced in sales, business development, and project management, with a keen interest in the renewable industry.
10. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, well-organized, and proactive.
Desirable:
1. Chartered member of a relevant professional body.
2. Extensive experience in the development, construction, and operation of onshore/offshore wind and other renewable energy projects.
3. Specialized in HVDC offshore substations, including protection units, control systems, and low-voltage cabling.
4. German project experience, with knowledge of German grid code and connection regimes.
5. Proficient in preparing technical specifications, evaluating tenders, and contract negotiation.
6. Experience as a lender's technical advisor and in engineering consultancy for renewable projects.
7. Skilled in power systems studies and simulation software (PowerFactory, PSS/E, SINCAL, PSCAD).
8. Knowledge of submarine and onshore power cable systems, fibre optics, SCADA, and grid connection processes.
9. Understanding of technical and commercial aspects of renewable energy infrastructure, including project finance and regulatory matters.
10. Proficient in Matlab, Visual Basic, and MathCAD.
11. Additional language skills in French, German, Polish, Mandarin, Japanese, or Korean are advantageous.
