Development Engineer (m/f/d) Imaging Devices
We are looking for a Development Engineer with a strong background in mechanical engineering or mechatronics and a solid system‑level understanding. The role is anchored in the R&D Chapter Kinematics and focuses on development of mechanical and mechatronic solutions. The primary focus is on X-Ray Imaging Devices, with additional involvement in related dental devices across the entire product lifecycle. In this position, you work hands‑on in interdisciplinary development teams and contribute to the design, implementation, and validation of robust and high‑performance systems. You translate system and product requirements into technical concepts and support their realization in close collaboration with system architecture, electronics, software, quality, and manufacturing. You are responsible for the development and optimization of mechanical and kinematic design solutions, while ensuring functionality, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance with regulatory requirements. You contribute to concept decisions, support risk identification and mitigation, and help drive continuous improvement of existing platforms and components. Your goal is to develop technically sound, sustainable solutions that ensure reliable performance, high usability, and cost‑effective products for our customers and the business.
Your Responsibilities:
Research & Innovation
* Monitor emerging technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes.
* Collaborate with research partners, universities, and suppliers to evaluate new technical concepts.
* Contribute technical insights to early concept and innovation activities.
Design & Development
* Develop mechanical and mechatronic components and systems across the product lifecycle.
* Design solutions meeting performance, usability, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of existing products and platforms.
Prototyping & Testing
* Build and evaluate prototypes to validate design concepts and system performance.
* Apply simulation and analysis methods to support design decisions.
* Plan and execute functional tests and verification activities to confirm compliance with defined technical and functional requirements.
Regulatory Compliance
* Ensure designs and documentation comply with quality management systems and applicable regulations.
* Support verification, validation, and regulatory activities as required.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work closely with system engineering, electronics, software, manufacturing, and quality teams.
* Support smooth transitions from development to industrialization.
Troubleshooting & Optimization
* Analyze and resolve technical issues during development and post‑launch.
* Perform risk and failure analyses (e.g. dFMEA, RCA) to ensure robust solutions.
* Maintain and update technical documentation and specifications.
Supplier Management
* Collaborate with suppliers on component development and technical alignment.
* Support evaluation of supplier solutions against technical and quality requirements.
Intellectual Property (IP)
* Contribute to invention disclosures and support patent activities.
* Maintain awareness of relevant competitor IP from a technical perspective.
Travel activity
• International business travel up to 5%.
Your Profile:
* A university degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or an equivalent engineering qualification.
* Proven experience in product development of complex systems, ideally within X‑ray imaging devices.
* Experience in the dental or medical device industry is considered a strong advantage.
* Solid knowledge of regulatory frameworks and industry standards, including familiarity with medical device regulations (e.g. MDR).
* Several years of experience in a development or system‑responsible engineering role, involving technical design responsibility, system contribution, and coordination with cross‑functional development teams.
* Strong engineering mindset with the ability to take technical responsibility for mechanical and mechatronic solutions at component and system level.
* Solid experience working in cross‑functional development environments, ideally within agile or hybrid development frameworks.
* Willingness and ability to deeply engage with the technologies underlying our products, particularly in mechanics, kinematics and mechatronics.
* Strong understanding of engineering principles, standards, and quality systems, including hands‑on experience with CAD tools (e.g. Creo) to support sound technical decision‑making.
* Experience with engineering analysis methods, including FEM simulations, strength and durability calculations, and risk analysis techniques such as FMEA, to support robust design decisions at component and system level.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective alignment with engineering teams, system architects, manufacturing, quality, and other stakeholders.
* Structured and analytical thinker with a strong focus on robust solutions, risk awareness, and continuous improvement.
* Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken.
