Key Responsibilities
* Drive the design, analysis, and development of all fluid systems for the second stage of a three-stage launch vehicle, including propellant feed, pressurisation, purge, and drain/fill systems
* Produce and own fluid system schematics (P&IDs), component specifications, and interface control documents in coordination with propulsion, structures, and avionics teams
* Perform fluid system analysis including flow network modelling, pressure drop calculations, waterhammer, and thermal conditioning to validate system performance across all mission phases
* Define component requirements and work with procurement to qualify valves, regulators, sensors, flex lines, and other fluid system hardware
* Support stage integration activities, ensuring fluid system routing, brackets, and interfaces are compatible with the vehicle architecture
* Develop and execute ground test plans for fluid system qualification and acceptance, including cold flow, proof pressure, and leak testing
* Collaborate with the first and third stage teams to ensure cross-stage fluid system commonality and interface compatibility where applicable
* Maintain awareness of propellant hazards and work closely with safety teams to ensure all fluid systems meet regulatory and range safety requirements
* Support launch site operations, providing technical authority for fluid system procedures during fueling, pressurisation, and countdown operations
Basic Qualification
* Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Process Engineering (or closely related discipline)
* Demonstrated experience in the design and analysis of pressurised fluid systems in an aerospace, defence, or high-integrity engineering environment
* Proficiency in fluid system modelling tools such as Ecosim, Amesim, StarCCM or equivalent
* Strong understanding of propellant properties, cryogenic systems, and high-pressure liquid and gas systems
* Experience with component selection, specification writing, and hardware qualification processes
* Familiarity with P&ID development and configuration management practices
* Good understanding of industry standards relevant to fluid systems (e.g. ASME, ECSS, NASA-STD-5005, AIAA)
Desired Experience
* Hands-on experience with liquid rocket propellant systems, particularly LOX
* Experience working on a multi-stage launch vehicle programme
* Background in cryogenic system design including thermal conditioning, chilldown, and boil-off management
* Familiarity with ground support equipment (GSE) design and launch site fluid operations
* Experience supporting or leading HAZOP studies and fault tree analysis for fluid systems or similar

This role will be based in Glasgow, Scotland and at occasionally there may be requirements to travel to our facilities in Neuenstadt am Kocher, Germany or our test and launch facilities in Shetland.
Glasgow has a strong aerospace and advanced manufacturing community with world class small satellite manufacturers, HyImpulse's potential customers, located there. More satellites are built in Glasgow than any other place outside California, a dynamic and thriving environment in which to join a New Space company.
Ranked number 2 UK city for work-life balance (Startups Cities Index 2022), low housing and living costs, high internet speeds - a city internationally recognised for its openness, resilience, trust and friendliness, Glasgow is one of the top destinations for science, engineering innovation and design in Europe.
Glasgow's West End neighbourhood is popular with students and young professionals alike, while in the centre you'll find a mix of modern and traditional homes. Dennistoun in the East End of the city has recently been voted one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world according to TimeOut.
From top events, attractions and cultural festivals to the city's iconic music venues, a diverse and award-winning food and drink scene and the largest retail destination in the UK outside of London, there is plenty to keep everyone entertained. Over 90 parks and gardens, city cycling routes, the River Clyde, and the Clyde and Forth Canal, offers urban tranquillity as well as the welcome buzz of a city.
Beyond Glasgow's thriving urban social scene, it is the perfect base to explore Scotland. Stunning scenery in the form of rolling hills, glens and lochs are reachable within half an hour's drive of the city centre and outdoor sports such as hillwalking, climbing, sailing, hiking and mountain biking are popular weekend pursuits.
