About the Role
As a Technical Procurement Manager, you will be responsible for sourcing highly complex, often custom-specified components required for the development and construction of advanced quantum computing systems.
You will work closely with physicists, hardware engineers, and project managers, translating sophisticated technical requirements into robust procurement strategies. The role combines technical purchasing, supplier management, export control compliance, and cost optimisation in a highly innovative R&D environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Purchasing & Supplier Management
* Procurement of high-tech components (optics, lasers, RF/microwave systems, electronics, precision parts, vacuum systems, cryogenics, specialty materials)
* Technical evaluation of drawings, specifications, tolerances, and bills of materials
* Supplier selection, qualification, and development (domestic and international)
* Negotiation of quotations, pricing, delivery schedules, and contractual terms
* Coordination of prototypes, sample parts, and early production stages
Engineering & R&D Interface
* Close collaboration with optical, microwave, firmware, and hardware teams
* Support material selection, manufacturability assessments, and make-or-buy decisions
* Early involvement in development projects to ensure procurement feasibility
Export Control & Compliance
* Ensure compliance with German, European, and US export control regulations (including Dual-Use frameworks)
* Classification of components in coordination with Legal and Engineering
* Review of documentation, end-use statements, and supplier compliance
Cost, Quality & Risk Management
* Develop sourcing strategies and cost forecasts
* Monitor delivery timelines and project risks
* Apply value engineering principles without compromising technical performance
Required Qualifications
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, Precision Engineering, or equivalent technical background
* Several years of experience in technical purchasing within high-tech or R&D-driven environments
* Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
* Experience with high-technology supply chains
* Knowledge of export control regulations (or strong willingness to learn)
* Fluent English and German
* Strong communication skills across technical stakeholders
