What you’ll do
SAP aims to develop an Open Reference Architecture (ORA) for a secure and sustainable cloud edge infrastructure that includes intelligent optimization methods for data transparency and security. This reference infrastructure, inspired by the EU IPCEI-CIS (Important Project of Common European Interest – Next Generation Cloud Infrastructure and Services) program, shall be the basis for future software development and a prerequisite for a pan-European cloud edge infrastructure.
SAP will be working on the publicly funded project with both experienced employees from its existing workforce but also new hires. Therefore, we are looking for suitable candidates. If you are interested in Cloud Operating System development and operation, the usage and further development of Open-Source solutions and standards, interoperability, efficiency, and sustainability you should consider applying.
Step into the dynamic world of open source with our team! Garden Linux is SAP’s tailored and hardened Debian based Linux derivate for cloud native applications. As Linux System Engineer (f/m/d) in the team, you will be part of the engineering team and working on lots of thrilling tasks across the full stack. The focus of the role is on helping users with technical problems, but additionally you will contribute to our quality and operations activities.
As a Linux System Engineer (f/m/d) for the “Garden Linux” Team you will:
1. Maintain Garden Linux by building new features or addressing issues.
2. Maintain Linux packages (review changes, publish fixes, engage & contribute up-stream).
3. Develop new features to enhance Garden Linux capabilities.
4. Support Garden Linux users in case of technical issues or questions.
5. Automate Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines for image builds.

What you bring
Required:
6. Experience working with Linux-based systems.
7. Experience with Cloud Platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP.
8. Comfortable with Continuous Integration systems.
9. Hands-on experience with troubleshooting Linux issues.
10. Problem-solving skills and empathy for the customer.
11. Willingness to develop skills and work in the direction of quality and operations (e.g., development & execution of tests, reproducing issues...)
12. Fluency both written and spoken in English.
Preferred:
13. Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized applications.
14. Hands-on experience with Linux containers.
15. Experience with Debian, bash, python, GitHub Actions.
16. Experience with Infrastructure as Code workflows such as Terraform.
17. Fluency in German.
