Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH is a 100 percent family-owned company, headquartered in Duisburg since its foundation in 1756. It manages a portfolio of independent businesses with the goal to create value over the long term, for generations.
Haniel is going through major changes, with a newly defined long term strategy based on two pillars
* A portfolio of independent businesses, managed with a long term objectives to create value for generations. This means portfolio companies are a basis to serve dividend for the shareholders but have to be actively managed in order to generate long term returns. Short term, the portfolio will need some arbitrage and clarifications, before a new active investment strategy will be determined to manage and expand this portfolio. Currently, the Haniel portfolio comprises ten portfolio companies: BauWatch, BekaertDeslee, CWS Clean Room, CWS Fire Safety, CWS Hygiene, CWS WorkWear, EMMA, Kinderzimmer, ROVEMA and TAKKT. Additionally, Haniel is one of the anchor shareholders of CECONOMY.
* A diversified investment arm, under constitution. This newly created investment vehicle will be based on the historical Growth+ portfolio, a diversified portfolio of minority stakes in start ups as well as some investments in funds. Longer term, the objective is to have an equivalent share of the assets value between the two legs of Haniel
Your Tasks
As a (Senior) Investment Manager, you are responsible for managing the entire investment life cycle process — from sourcing to closing. A core part of the role is active portfolio management: developing and implementing value creation strategies in the areas of growth acceleration, performance improvement, cashflow measures and inorganic growth, in close collaboration with the management teams of the portfolio companies. In addition to the ongoing development of Haniel’s direct investments, you will execute complex M&A transactions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
* Drive value creation initiatives and transformation projects within Haniel’s portfolio companies
* Collaborate closely with Operating Partners, Haniel experts and C-level and portfolio management teams
* Strategic planning: Support the Value Creation Plans of portfolio companies and monitor implementation and strategy deployment
* Value creation: Leverage analytical experience to identify and solve problems and to support value creation initiatives
* Evaluate and recommend investment opportunities
* Lead complex transaction processes end-to-end, coordinating internal and external stakeholders and advisors
* Perform detailed operational and financial modeling and valuation analyses
* Health of the business: Review monthly and quarterly financial and non-financial KPIs to support portfolio company executives in operational decision-making
Your Profile
* University degree in business, economics, or related quantitative disciplines with strong strategy and/or finance expertise
* Minimum 4-6 years of professional experience in strategy consulting, private equity or family equity; Similar profiles (such as corporate M&A profiles) are also considered
* Proven track record in developing and implementing business strategies, including strategy design, growth acceleration, operational and financial performance improvement, and inorganic growth / buy-and-build initiatives
* Strong understanding of business models, competitive dynamics and market structures
* Ability to synthesize complex analysis into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders
* Experience in M&A, valuation, financial modelling and due diligence is a plus
* Excellent written and verbal communication; confident in preparing decision-grade materials and engaging with senior leadership and external advisors
* Hands on mentality, analytical and self-driven team player with strong resilience under pressure
* Empathetic and collaborative approach, fostering positive and productive relationships
* Fluency in German and English
