Senior Counsel, EMEA Employment Law (m/f/x)

As our Senior Counsel for EMEA Employment Law, you will be the go-to expert, guiding HR and business stakeholders across the EMEA region, with a special focus on German and Swiss employment law. Your expertise will cover a wide array of employment-related matters, including:
* Employment agreements
* Works council relations
* Collective actions
* Discrimination and counseling
* Disciplinary actions and documentation
* Terminations and investigations
* Wage and hour compliance
* Compensation and payroll
The Opportunity
In this pivotal role, you will:
* Manage the review and triage of employment law guidance requests to external counsel across EMEA, acting as the primary contact for the Global Head of Labor & Employment Law.
* Provide strategic legal advice on organizational change initiatives, including restructurings and digital transformation projects.
* Oversee employee terminations and organizational reorganizations, supporting the company’s response to crises like strikes and regulatory audits.
* Collaborate closely with Employee Relations and Industrial Relations professionals to lead negotiations with works councils.
* Advise the HR team on developing and updating HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with the latest employment law developments.
* Manage litigation matters and represent the company directly when appropriate.
* Conduct internal investigations and respond to legal correspondence from current or former employees.
* Design and deliver training sessions on key employment law topics for HR, managers, and employees.
Your Skills and Experience
We are looking for candidates who possess:
* 1st and 2nd German “state exam”
* Active bar membership in Germany
* A minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience, focusing on German employment law, with at least 3 years as in-house counsel.
* Experience advising on employment law in Switzerland, the UK, France, or other European countries is preferred.
* Significant experience working directly with works councils and independently counseling clients, particularly HR.
* Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industry is a plus.
* Strong negotiation, drafting, communication, and stakeholder influencing skills.
Travel Requirements: 10-15%, including occasional international travel.
