The Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology is a research institute of the Max Planck Society. It was founded in 1992 in the State of Bremen and employs around 200 staff members. In close collaboration with numerous university and non-university research institutions, we explore the diversity and function of microorganisms in the ocean and their interactions with their environment. Scientists from all over the world, engineers, technicians and administrative staff together make an important contribution to global marine and environmental research.


The Department of Symbiosis is seeking a highly motivated



Postdoctoral Research Associate (f/m/d)

to investigate marine transmissible cancers.


Your profile and eligibility requirements:

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, passionate about cancer evolution, microbiome and marine bivalves, and willing to learn, develop and apply state-of-the-art computational approaches. They will hold a PhD in a relevant subject, have a solid computational background, and be able to curate, analyse and interpret multi-omics data sets (i.e., genomics, transcriptomics, metagenomics, and environmental data integration). Experience in microbial ecology, cancer genomics, or marine biology is an asset but not a prerequisite for the position. The successful candidate should demonstrate collaborative skills, and a proven ability to manage complex datasets and contribute to manuscript preparation.

Applicants should be fluent in English, have excellent scientific writing skills and should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team.

What we offer:

The position is offered for two years with a possible extension depending on available funding.The salary is according to the German system for public employees up to E14 TVöD Bund. You will be part of a motivating and supportive research group. The MPI for Marine Microbiology is home to a vibrant scientific community and provides access to state-of-the-art research facilities, as well as ample opportunities for professional development and networking.
