Role Summary
As Circle Lead for Utility-Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems, you will be responsible for driving the growth, commercial success, and operational excellence of a rapidly expanding business area. This leadership role combines strategic planning, team development, business expansion, and commercial ownership to strengthen market position and accelerate long-term growth.
You will oversee a team of specialists, guide the development of large-scale energy storage opportunities, and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver successful utility-scale projects.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the Utility BESS division both strategically and operationally, including disciplinary and functional management of the team.
- Define and execute the sales and business development strategy for the utility-scale BESS market (e.g., utilities, IPPs, project developers).
- Manage and prioritize the entire project portfolio based on profitability, risk, and strategic relevance.
- Drive the acquisition of large-scale projects and develop long-term relationships with executive-level stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, and Finance to establish efficient and scalable proposal and delivery processes.
- Take full responsibility for cost calculations, pricing strategy, and proposal quality within the Utility segment.
- Analyze market, technology, and competitive trends and derive actionable growth initiatives.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, trade fairs, and key stakeholder meetings.
- Establish and continuously improve processes, standards, and tools to increase efficiency, quality, and win rates.
Education
Bachelor's, Diploma, or Master's degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Energy Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Renewable Energy
- Or a related technical field
Professional Experience
- Minimum 15 years of professional experience preferred.
- 5–10 years of leadership experience.
- Approximately 5 years of experience in renewable energy and/or BESS.
- Demonstrated responsibility for revenues in the range of €30–50 million.
- Proven success leading complex sales, project, or business organizations.
- Strong knowledge of utility-scale battery storage systems, energy infrastructure, or renewable energy markets.
Technical Expertise
Deep understanding of:
- Utility-scale BESS solutions
- Energy markets and grid services
- System sizing and design
- Revenue stacking models
- FCR (Frequency Containment Reserve)
- aFRR (Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve)
- CAPEX/OPEX optimization
- Regulatory frameworks affecting energy storage
Travel & Mobility
- Regular business travel is expected, averaging approximately 50% of working time.
- Travel may include customer meetings, supplier visits, project sites, and industry events.
Working Arrangement
- Flexible hybrid working model available.
- Regular on-site collaboration is expected, typically several days per week.
