About the Role
We are seeking an Associate Publisher to join our Business, Economics and Statistics Journals division. Under the guidance of the Executive Publisher, the Associate Publisher will steer the growth, development and editorial management of a portfolio of German- and English-language academic journals in the social sciences, including the German-language law portfolio.
As the primary publishing contact for these journals, you will work alongside leading academics, policymakers and thought leaders in their fields, meaning that excellent communication skills, curiosity, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively will be vital. Working with colleagues throughout the company, you will also gain valuable exposure and experience to many aspects of the publishing industry.
This role will be in our Heidelberg office on a hybrid working model.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Manage a journals portfolio as point of contact in publishing, overseeing workflows and processes
2. Grow the journals portfolio by tracking key performance metrics and driving strategic improvements
3. Engage with global and regional research communities to strengthen ties with Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Boards, Society Partners, and foster new relationships
4. Advance division goals by developing your portfolio in line with Springer Nature’s publishing strategy
5. Occasionally represent your journals portfolio at conferences and Editorial Board meetings, sharing insights and tracking research trends
6. Collaborate cross-functionally with peer-review, production, IT, and other teams to swiftly resolve challenges for authors, reviewers and editors
7. Support Publication Ethics by helping to resolve research integrity concerns, with expert guidance from SN’s Research Integrity Group
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
8. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both English and German
9. Educated to Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a relevant field of study
10. Be numerate and IT systems-literate, with a sharp eye for detail
11. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and be able to work on your own initiative
12. Resourcefulness and evidence-based decision making when responding to problems, queries, and opportunities
13. Have excellent teamwork skills to collaborate with people within the company and externally at all levels
14. Have a proactive attitude
15. Have excellent networking and acquiring skills, and good presentation skills
16. Demonstrated experience working with high profile stakeholders
17. Previous experience within academic publishing, particularly with journals appreciated
