JOB DESCRIPTION
This position will manage and supervise all activities of the Regional Water Compliance Program, Pollution Response and Preparedness (PReP) program, and any other ancillary program or program areas assigned in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, agency policies, and procedures. Please note this position follows a hybrid work schedule to include both in-office and telework. Candidates must be able to work from the assigned work location in Virginia. This is a restricted position. Continued employment is contingent on the availability of grant or non-general funds.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is primarily responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of program inspections at, not limited to or inclusive of, the following operations: industrial and municipal wastewater facilities, municipal stormwater systems, and/or agriculture management operations. This position will ensure investigation of pollution incidents associated with discharges to state waters. This position will also supervise staff and manage associated agency assets and resources as best practicable and in accordance with all applicable agency and state policies and practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Demonstrated knowledge of DEQ and other Leadership Competencies: achieve results; thinking strategically & encouraging others to think strategically; cultivating productive work relationships; and communicating with confidence.
2. Demonstrated competency in program and personnel management and supervision; knowledge of wastewater treatment, wastewater laboratory procedures and safety procedures; chemistry, biology, environmental science; water quality laws, regulations, and programs; strong oral and written communications ability; sound knowledge of computer operations (including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases); and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
3. A level of education or training that combined with the type and level of experience in the KSA’s would enable the performance of the specified job duties.
4. Work experience applying environmental science and engineering principles to wastewater treatment, water monitoring and sludge management.
5. Personnel supervision and program management experience.
6. This position may require you to operate a state owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
7. Must complete an annual Statement of Economic Interest and Virginia State and Local Conflict of Interest Act Training (bi-annually).
