Job Description
As a Product Line Director, you are responsible for understanding the market for Avery Dennison’s products and solutions and developing a product line strategy that identifies and exploits key profit pools to enable top and bottom line growth. Your focus will be on our category, specifically on innovations and evolutions for the product line. Your role will serve as a catalyst in bringing innovative products and solutions to the organization. You will directly manage the PLM team supporting Embelex and Core Apparel products, creating and delivering product solutions based on business cases and briefs developed collaboratively with technical innovation, commercial, and operations teams. You will report to the VP of Embelex Products.
You will partner with your team of product line managers and various divisions within our organization to build and execute the product line strategy. Key stakeholders include the Commercial, Business Development, Innovation, Operations, Global Procurement, and Global Product Development teams, with whom you will identify and evaluate market needs and develop specific value propositions that lead to new or incremental sales. As the market expert, you will help drive market growth and translate consumer insights, trends, and innovations into go-to-market solutions. You will also enable the technical selling organization with knowledge of new solutions for product training and customer engagement.
Your responsibilities include managing the product lifecycle, gathering and prioritizing requirements, defining product vision and scope, and ensuring alignment with revenue targets, business objectives, and customer needs.
Activities include:
1. Conducting market and competitive analysis to stay informed of trends, customer needs, segmentation, and competitors.
2. Collaborating with technical and commercial teams to gather insights, identify white space opportunities, and leverage them for product evolution.
3. Monitoring product line profitability and industry trends to inform lifecycle management, including upgrades, cost savings, new introductions, and EOL strategies.
4. Driving product line strategies and developing product roadmaps.
5. Supporting the implementation of category portfolio strategies and developing short and long-term plans.
6. Defining and presenting new product plans, including competitive analysis, differentiation, value propositions, and strategic targets.
7. Collaborating with commercial teams to develop and support value propositions and positioning.
8. Providing direction to the technical selling team for product launches and customer conversations.
9. Driving commercialization of new products from discovery to project close.
10. Managing sustainability initiatives and product transitions in collaboration with relevant teams.
11. Partnering with global procurement to source raw materials and suppliers regionally.
12. Ensuring support infrastructure is in place for new product launches, including capacity planning and resource alignment.
Qualifications include:
* Understanding of operational categories and evolving technologies.
* Proven experience in defining, launching, and sustaining products.
* Technical knowledge of products within the category.
* Customer and market focus, with experience consolidating requirements and leveraging technological solutions.
* Strong influencing, public speaking, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
* Knowledge of the apparel and accessories industry landscape.
* Stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
* Attention to detail and organized work habits.
* Excellent communication skills in English.
* Experience in apparel manufacturing, materials, or trim management preferred.
* International product line management experience is advantageous.
* Willingness to travel approximately 20% globally.
* Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with 15+ years of industry experience.
