Working Student - Automation Engineer

As the People Tech team, our mission is to enable long-term scalability by fostering a data-informed culture through seamless systems and a people-centric employee experience and as our Automation Engineer - Working Student, you will help transform how SumUp operates by automating manual and time-intensive processes across People Operations, Field Sales, and supporting functions. This role is perfect for a student or early-career professional who loves experimenting with tools, building MVPs, and solving real problems through technology. You will learn by doing, explore workflows, and build solutions that improve how teams work every day will look different.
What you’ll do:
1. Map and analyse manual workflows across People Operations, IT, Talent Acquisition and related teams to identify automation opportunities.
2. Build and test no-/low-code automations using tools like n8n, Make, Zapier, Airtable Automations, and Google Apps Script.
3. Create simple scripts or connectors to help sync data between platforms such as Google Workspace, Workday, Greenhouse, and Leapsome.
4. Document your work with clear, reusable guides that help the People Tech team scale solutions.
5. Measure the impact of your prototypes by tracking time saved, reduced errors, and improved user experience.
You’ll be great for this role if:
6. You’re curious, hands-on, and love learning new tools or finding faster ways to get things done.
7. You have some familiarity with no-/low-code tools or basic scripting (JavaScript, Python, or Google Apps Script).
8. You feel comfortable working with spreadsheets, APIs, and logical workflows.
9. You enjoy exploring problems, testing ideas quickly, and iterating based on feedback.
10. You collaborate well and can communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have:
11. Experience automating tasks in Google Workspace or using workflow tools.
12. Basic understanding of integrations, webhooks, or data flows.
13. Exposure to process documentation or UX thinking.
