System Engineer – OpenStack / Cloud Infrastructure (m/f/d) Permanent position, full-time · Cologne Your Responsibilities As part of our Infrastructure and Cloud team, you will play a key role in the joint development, operation, and further enhancement of our OpenStack platform: Design & Architecture: Joint planning, implementation, and scaling of highly available OpenStack clusters based on OSISM / SCS Setup & Implementation: Active participation in the initial setup of the cloud platform as well as in defining architecture, operational, and automation standards Administration & Operations: Operation, maintenance, patch management, and upgrades of core OpenStack components (e.g., Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Keystone, Glance) Automation: Implementation of Infrastructure as Code collaboratively within the team, particularly using Ansible, Git-based workflows, and CI pipelines Storage & Networking: Integration and operation of distributed storage solutions (Ceph) and software-defined networks (OVS / OVN) Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Monitoring the platform (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana), analyzing performance issues, and resolving complex incidents at the 2nd/3rd level Further Development & Innovation: Joint evaluation of new open-source technologies and active participation in shaping the cloud roadmap Your Profile You have several years of professional experience in building and operating complex IT, cloud, or hosting infrastructures; OpenStack experience is a plus, but not required You have in-depth knowledge of Linux system administration (Ubuntu, Debian, or RHEL) at the command-line level You also have a good understanding of TCP/IP, routing, and switching, as well as, ideally, experience with distributed storage systems such as Ceph You have experience with automation and version control tools such as Ansible, Git, and CI/CD pipelines; knowledge of Kubernetes or containers is welcome A structured, self-reliant work style, strong teamwork skills, and a desire to build something together come naturally to you Fluency in spoken and written German is required; good English skills are a plus What we offer you You can expect a varied role in building the IT division of the NetCologne Group, as well as an innovative and dynamic company with flat hierarchies that is focused on growth.
