Job Description

Soft-magnetic components, such as transformers and chokes, are essential in automotive power-electronic converters such as chargers or DC/DC-converters. They have a high impact on the overall device’s cost, size, and efficiency. To significantly improve these key components, Bosch research is looking for a master student who can shape this exciting topic.

* During your thesis you will design an analytical model that accurately predicts the high-frequency impedance spectrum of planar transformers on printed circuit boards (PCBs), possibly based on a conductor model.
* Using FEA tools, you will simulate the impedance spectrum of these planar transformers to validate and refine your models.
* Furthermore you will independently conduct impedance spectrum measurements on real planar transformers on PCBs using a high-frequency impedance analyzer.
* Lastly you will regularly present your progress and results, discuss them with the team, and comprehensively document your findings as part of your master's thesis.


Qualifications

* Education: Master studies in Electrical Engineering or Physics with focus on Power Electronics and/or soft-magnetic components
* Experience and Knowledge: first lab experience in electronics and good command of Matlab/Simulink; experience with FEM tools for electromagnetics is preferred
* Personality and Working Practice: you work independently and approach tasks systematically, always proactively seeking and contributing new solutions
* Work Routine: office attendance required
* Languages: good in English

Start: according to prior agreement
Duration: 5 - 6 months
