Postdoc - molecular biology (m/f/d)

Düsseldorf
Deutsches Diabetes-Zentrum DDZ
Inserat online seit: 31 Juli
Beschreibung

The German Diabetes Center (DDZ), Leibniz Institute for Diabetes Research at Heinrich Heine Uni- versity (HHU) Düsseldorf, is an interdisciplinary research institute that integrates basic and clinical sciences to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and therapy of diabetes mellitus and its complications. The Junior Research Group Crosstalk (headed by Dr. Melanie Mittenbühler) at the Institute for Clinical Biochemistry and Pathobiochemistry focuses on how inter-tissue communication impacts energy balance and metabolic health. We are currently seeking a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher (Ph.D./Dr. rer. nat., m/f/div., E13 TV-L, 100%) to join our team. Our research focuses on secreted proteins from adipose and skeletal muscle tissues (adipokines/myokines) and their roles in whole-body metabolism and metabolic disorders. This specific project centers on exercise-induced myokines and their potential to mitigate the metabolic consequences of physical inactivity. The successful candidate will explore the molecular functions of three novel myokines as potential therapeutic targets for obesity and diabetes. The aims of the project are to: Assess how these novel myokines affect fat and muscle cell function. Uncover the molecular mechanisms by which they influence metabolism. Test their therapeutic potential in mouse models. Using biochemical, genetic, proteomic, and in vivo methods, this project seeks to reveal how exercise-sensitive myokines regulate metabolism in muscle and fat tissues, identify new signaling pathways, and evaluate their potential as treatments for metabolic diseases. Ph.D. or Dr. rer. nat. in molecular biology, biochemistry, physiology, or a related discipline. Demonstrated experience in working with mouse models and molecular biology techniques. Strong background in metabolism, cell biology, or proteomics. Experience with large-scale OMICS data analysis is highly advantageous. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication skills in English, both in writing and verbally. We offer a vibrant, dynamic, and diverse work environment, complemented by state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and advanced resources. Our culture fosters professional development and encourages collaboration. Join a team of passionate, driven young scientists and contribute to our research. Initially, the position is to be awarded for 2 years starting from 01.01.2026. An extension of the contract period is envisaged. The employment contract is governed by TV-L in its current version for North Rhine-Westphalia, including the special regulations regarding the scientific area. The salary is based on qualification and experience, according to TV-L. Females are especially encouraged to apply, and in the case of equal qualification, handicapped per- sons will be given preference. The German Diabetes Center is committed to family-friendly working conditions and equal gender policy. Since May 2011, the DDZ is a “Career and Family” audit-acknowledged center. The provisions of § 7 no. 1 of the Act on Part-Time Work and Fixed-Term Employment are taken into account.
