Job Description:
Epidemiologists play a crucial role in the detection, prevention, and control of infectious diseases. As an Epidemiologist, you will be responsible for analyzing complex data to identify trends, outbreaks, or clusters, and communicating your findings to stakeholders.
The Department of Microbiology is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Epidemiologist to join its team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in epidemiology, statistics, and microbiology, and will be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Main Responsibilities:
* Review Surveillance Data: Analyze and interpret surveillance data to establish baselines and identify trends, outbreaks, or clusters.
* Conduct Complex Statistical Analyses: Conduct statistical and epidemiological analyses for data drawn from various surveillance sources.
* Develop Epidemiological Outputs: Develop and draft regular reports, alerts, and scientific briefings on infectious disease trends and outbreaks.
* Maintain Communicable Diseases Surveillance Systems: Establish and maintain communicable diseases surveillance systems to monitor disease trends and outbreaks.
* Collaborate with Stakeholders: Provide timely and accurate submission of alert pathogens to national and international stakeholders.
Additional Responsibilities:
* Survey Emerging Pathogens: Survey and develop horizon scanning tools to identify newly emerging pathogens and support risk assessment.
* Participate in Scientific Working Groups: Participate in scientific working groups to stay up-to-date on current trends and data in infectious disease epidemiology.
* Contribute to European Projects: Contribute to ongoing European projects related to infectious disease control and prevention.
* Deliver Educational Materials: Prepare and deliver educational materials and lectures to professional and public groups on infectious disease epidemiology and control.

The Department of Microbiology is a multidisciplinary unit within a major player in Luxembourg's healthcare sector. The department is responsible for developing analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis, and monitoring of human diseases.
The department employs around 50 staff members and is subdivided into three services: bacteriology, virology, and pathogen sequencing. We offer a dynamic and collaborative work environment with opportunities for professional growth and development.
