General Counsel - Frankfurt / Remote (m/f/d)
Our client, A rapidly expanding renewable energy developer and investor is advancing multi‑GW wind, solar, hybrid, storage, and hydrogen projects across several European markets. With an ambitious growth trajectory and active project pipeline, the organisation is transitioning into a pan‑European Independent Power Producer (IPP).
They are now seeking an experienced General Counsel to join their team, to help build and scale their legal function across Europe.
The Role
The successful candidate will be the first in‑house General Counsel for the company responsible for building and scaling the legal function across European operations (Germany, Italy, UK, Spain, France).
The role will have a significant M&A focus during the first two years, driven by platform acquisitions and broader portfolio growth.
This is a highly autonomous and entrepreneurial position suited to someone able to establish legal infrastructure from scratch in a dynamic, fast‑moving environment.
Responsibilities
* Build, lead, and scale a legal function across multiple European jurisdictions.
* Develop governance frameworks, legal policies, playbooks, and internal processes.
* Advise senior leadership on legal, commercial, and strategic matters.
* Lead all M&A activity, including acquisitions, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and execution.
* Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial, transactional, and project‑related agreements.
* Establish compliance frameworks covering energy regulation, environmental law, data protection, sanctions, and corporate governance.
* Monitor regulatory developments across European markets and provide guidance to the executive team.
* Manage disputes, claims, and litigation arising from M&A, commercial contracts, or project operations.
Requirements
* Fully qualified lawyer in a European jurisdiction; German qualification strongly preferred.
* 10+ years' experience in renewable energy, IPP, infrastructure, or related industries.
* Strong experience in M&A, corporate transactions, and cross‑border dealmaking.
* Ability to work autonomously in a high‑growth, entrepreneurial environment.
* Strong commercial judgement and an ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
* Excellent communication skills; fluent in English and German.
