Your job:
* Mentor & lead (not manage) non-lead engineers who are more junior and may in some cases need considerable guidance & structure.
* Work with project managers to provide detailed breakdown of tasks, their dependencies and scope, to size and shape the projects key work components.
* Deliverables
* HLD for each of the above 2 areas, including a detailed dependency analysis. This role needs to go the next level of detail beyond the PNA’s work. Exactly what needs to move where in what order (or be transformed or simply decommissioned)? PNAs will be regularly consulted for a constant feedback loop on this this role does not have to survive on its own.
* BOM for network components and connectivity that needs to be procured to reach the target state.
* Detailed LLD and migration design/plan for each of the key areas (number of subcomponents tbd based on HLD findings). i.e. work out how, with minimal disruption to service, the target state can be reached.
* (Working with PM’s) shape the migration design into specific tasks (some of which to be done by this role, some to be allocated to other non-lead engineers), track those tasks, steer / make decisions as scope/solution changes are needed (PNA consulted).
* Lead the execution of the migrations to completion – direct personal involvement, leadership and in many cases physical presence on site will be required.
* Documentation and handover to operations, post migrations.
Your profile:
* Highly experienced working as a lead network consulting engineer in network transformation projects in enterprise space. Interest in large, highly complex, campus transformation and enterprise “HQ campus + data center” disentanglement projects.
* Able to analyze, document and designing high level and low level network solutions to complex multidimensional networking problems.
* Very competent in routing and switching design: CCIE/CCDE level or equivalent. Existing network has a complex legacy lan/wan/man routing/switching design that needs understanding, unpicking and rebuilding by this role. (PNA’s will provide a high level of input).
* Sufficient knowledge of pretty much all networking technology domains (routing, switching, firewalling, load balancing, wan, lan, man, compute hosting, cloud connectivity) to be unpick complex dependencies between multiple network components in all of these areas.
* Gravitas and authority to “own” the responsibility for all the technology areas associated with this migration – there can be no “I don’t do / know that” only “I will find out”.
