Who we are
Marvel Fusion, founded in 2019 and based in Munich, is a technology pioneer in the field of safe, clean, and reliable power generation. With the aim of solving one of the biggest problems of humanity, we are developing a completely new type of fusion energy technology that dramatically increases the probability of fusion and builds on recent advances in laser and nanoscience.
Why Marvel Fusion
By joining us, you will be:
* Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
* Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
* Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
* Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default
The impact you will make
At Marvel Fusion, we are building the future of clean energy. As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will contribute directly to the development and integration of the fuel of our fusion target systems, working on some of the most advanced materials and fabrication challenges in the world. This role will place you at the heart of our experimental efforts, guiding both scientific and strategic decisions that bring fusion energy closer to reality. You will work at the interface of cutting-edge chemistry, materials science and energy technology, collaborating with leading academic institutions and industrial partners. Your expertise will shape the fuel targets that power our fusion experiments and advance our long-term R&D capabilities.
Your responsibilities
* Integrating fuel into experimental targets.
* Initiate and lead an R&D stream focused on novel material synthesis or fabrication systems for in-house use.
* Partnership management: coordinate and maintain collaboration with academic and industrial partners, including regular reporting, defining new projects, and tracking deliverables.
* Materials characterisation: conduct or coordinate chemical and elemental analysis using techniques such as NMR, FTIR, SIMS, ERDA, ICP/MS, or equivalent.
* Process development: management of production periods related to chemical synthesis and deposition techniques (e.g. CVD, MLD, ALD, spray-coating, spin-coating, electrodeposition, etc.)
* Documentation and reporting: Maintain detailed records of research activities, project updates, and contribute to internal and external reports.
What you bring
* A PhD in Chemistry or Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field
* Extensive experience with chemical deposition and material synthesis techniques (e.g. CVD, MLD, ALD, spray-coating, electrodeposition)
* Proven hands-on expertise in analytical chemistry methods (e.g. FTIR, NMR, SIMS elemental analysis)
* A track record in managing or contributing to multi-partner research or industrial collaborations
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, experimental environment with evolving priorities
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
What sets you apart
* Experience in fusion, plasma physics, or energy systems
* Experience in boron chemistry or boron-based materials
* Experience with radioactive isotope-labelled materials
* Familiarity with fabrication systems development and lab automation
* Project management certification or experience in technology transfer
* Knowledge of vacuum systems and surface preparation
* Prior experience writing research grants or funding proposals
What we offer
* An opportunity to make a huge impact on the future of our planet by making clean, safe and abundant energy possible
* Flexible working, location- and hours-wise
* A human-centered company culture with super nice and supportive colleagues
* A great sense of community through team events and fun in and outside the office
* A modern office with a lot of collaborative space close to Theresienwiese in Munich
* Highly competitive compensation and benefits package
