As a full-time, seasonal staff member of Alpadia Language School’s language immersion camps, I served as a Creative Arts teacher and language immersion guide for 13–17-year-old students coming from every continent. My 24-hour responsibilities included supporting student’s social, emotional, and cultural development, designing and guiding excursions with 20-40 participants, diverse skill transfer through arts education, child safeguarding and risk management. Working in an innovative, fast-paced, highly collaborative work environment also allowed me to develop crucial competences in solution-focused conflict management, child development and language teaching.
Job Description
Our activity staff are responsible for delivering fun and engaging activities and excursions to a group of international students, following Alpadia’s approach to language immersion and experiential learning. In this role, you'll be responsible for running Creative Arts programs 3 afternoons/week. In general, you will be working closely with other Activity Leaders and Teachers, ensuring our students have a meaningful time in camp, full of learning and personal growth, while offering expert supervision and safety. Additionally, you’ll take an active role in the day-to-day operations of camp via attendance checks, helping out during wake-ups and bedtime, and leading camp-wide Evening Programs.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
3. Experience working with children or young people in a professional capacity
4. Demonstrated skills in the field of Art Education, or teaching art/creative workshops
5. Some German proficiency (spoken B1-B2 minimum), ability to learn activity-specific vocabulary to ensure language immersion
6. Fluency in English
7. High physical, mental and emotional resilience
8. Experience in meaningful, professional teamwork
9. High energy level, excitement and comfort speaking in front of large groups
10. Availability for the entire summer season (June 27 – August 9)
Desired Criteria
11. Fluency in German and English
12. Experience in outdoor education or summer camps
13. Significant background in Art Education
14. Driver’s License, and ability to drive a minivan
