As part of our Business Development Unit, you will be at the heart of the action: supporting our sales leaders with large new-business opportunities across pension, not-for-profit, insurance, or wealth-management client types. This is not a direct sales role but a team-based environment where you will be expected to influence our win rates through top-quality materials, support, and proactive thinking.
In this central team, you will enhance your knowledge and understanding of a wide range of investment topics, such as strategy-setting, private markets investing, ESG investing, capital markets, and more. This diversity of skills, knowledge, and experience will open up a variety of long-term career paths both within business development and wider functions. We are a high-performing business with an extremely strong culture of inclusivity, diversity, and teamwork. We also provide generous study-support packages (e.g., CFA) and are passionate about both career development and work-life balance.
What is in it for you:
1. A secure, permanent employment relationship
2. An international corporate environment in which diversity, sustainability and social commitment are a priority
3. Individual development opportunities + paid trainings for CFA
4. Competitive Salary and a bouquet of different benefits and deferred compensation opportunities
5. Flexible working hours with home office option
We will rely on you to:
6. Develop in-depth knowledge of Mercer’s investment research and client solutions in order to explain and communicate to colleagues and prospective clients.
7. Work closely with Germany sales and commercial leadership on all aspects of sales and business development activities, and demonstrate ownership of key sales deliverables, including new business proposals, pitch material, and any areas of specialist expertise that you may be assigned to.
8. Support and influence other Germany business development initiatives, such as the roll-out of new tools, product launches, marketing initiatives, go-to-market strategy, market research, and intelligence. This will involve collaborating with worldwide Mercer colleagues across our wider investment, operational, client, and consulting teams.
9. Support, guide, and coach more junior colleagues, and contribute to the continuous development of the team.
What you need to have:
10. A third-level qualification with a strong academic track record, a strong interest in capital markets, and relevant experience in the investment industry (CFA and actuarial backgrounds welcome).
11. Energy, proactivity, and attention to detail.
12. The ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, and deliverables simultaneously.
13. Proven team player characteristics and interpersonal skills.
14. Strong IT skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) with the ability to embrace other tools.
What makes you stand out:
15. Experience in business development and preparing business proposals for presentation.
16. Understanding of the institutional investment landscape and structures.
17. Experience with private-markets asset classes such as private equity/private debt would be particularly relevant.
18. Creative thinking with high standards of output and the ability to generate concise written materials.
19. The ability to communicate complex issues in a simple and coherent manner.
