BITA’s Product Development team is looking for an Senior Associate – Index Product Development to join us in driving the creation of cutting‑edge indices and systematic investment strategies. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and managing complex index methodologies and structured product strategies, including those involving derivatives and options. You will bring concepts from ideation to implementation, working across the entire product lifecycle with autonomy and ownership.
You will work directly with the leadership team and collaborate in a flat and flexible structure, with an international employee base and a Product Development team based in Frankfurt am Main.
Key Responsibilities:
* Independent Product Development: Lead the design and implementation of new investment concepts and complex index solutions, with a strong focus on derivatives, options, and structured products. Take full ownership of projects, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of index data to clients.
* Quantitative & Technical Execution: Utilise strong Python programming skills to build quantitative models, conduct backtesting, and validate product ideas. Serve as the technical lead on your projects, taking ownership of the full development lifecycle and building out BITA’s core index calculation engine with your production‑grade Python code. Deploy service‑based solutions following software engineering best practices, ensuring robustness, scalability and showing deep awareness of long‑term operational stability of the product.
* Client & Market Engagement: Communicate and cooperate with the commercial team and clients on new product development. Helping to bridge the gap between technical complexity and commercial viability.
* Process & Technology Improvement: Help drive the specification of functionality for our software solutions and work closely with the IT department on the implementation. Ensure that the highest quality standards are maintained throughout the product range.
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent. An MBA, a Master’s Degree, and/or a CFA charter holder is desired.
* Experience: Proven experience in the financial service industry (4+ years), preferably specifically in indexing, quantitative asset management, or investment product development.
* Business Expertise: Solid knowledge of all asset classes and tradable instruments, including equities, options and derivatives with experience in applying it to rules‑based investment solutions.
Technical Proficiency (Must-Have):
* Python: Expert‑level programming skills with extensive experience using Python for data analysis, financial modelling, and backtesting. You must be comfortable writing and deploying production‑ready code independently within a shared codebase. Experience building service‑based solutions (e.g., with FastAPI) and a strong command of software development best practices (version control with Git, code review, testing, documentation) are essential.
* Excel: Advanced skills in Excel for financial modelling and ad‑hoc analysis.
* Process and Scalability Mindset: Experience working in an environment where high quality standards and rigorous development processes are enforced. You understand the importance of building for scale, maintainability, and auditability, and you can apply that structured thinking to BITA’s agile environment.
* Data Fluency: Demonstrated ability to manipulate, transform, and analyze large datasets to derive insights and build investment strategies.
* Language Skills: Business fluent in English (written and verbal) with ability to clearly present complex concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Spanish‑language proficiency is a plus.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):
* Index Mechanics: Deep understanding of how indices are used and the impact corporate events and rebalance changes have on both indices and financial portfolios.
* Database Knowledge: Familiarity with database technologies such as PostgreSQL / MySQL / MongoDB.
* Entrepreneurial Spirit: Previous experience in a startup environment or having launched your own project is highly regarded.
